Narrative Text

A narrative (or story) is any report of connected events, presented in a sequence of written or spoken words, and/or in a sequence of (moving) pictures.

Social function of narrative text is to amuse, entertain the reader about the vicurious experiences in different ways.

Type of narrative text:
  1. Fable
  2. Fairly tale
  3. Legend
  4. Myth
  5. Folk tale
Generic structure
  1. Orientation, introduction into characters or participants and also the setting
  2. Complication, the rising of problems
  3. Resolution, the problem is solved for better or for worse
  4. Reorientation, in the ending of the story
Language features
  1. Past tense: long time ago, one day, etc
  2. Action tense: run, walked, etc
  3. Saying tense: said, told, etc
  4. Thinking tense: felt, thought, etc
Example

Title
Cinderella
Orientation
Once upon a time there was a beautiful girl called Cinderella. She lived with her stepsister and step mother and they were very bossy. She had to do all the house work.
Complication
One day an invitation to the ball came to the family. Her stepsister did not let her to go, so Cinderella was very sad. The stepsister went to the ball without her.
Resolution
Fortunately, the fairly godmother came and helped her to get to the ball. At the ball, Cinderella danced with the prince. The prince fell in love with her then he married her. They lived happily ever after.
